What Your Results Mean

The calculator shows three figures:

  • Estimated initial advance: The amount a lender could release upfront.
  • Illustrative service fee: The service fee based on the percentage entered.
  • Estimated remaining balance: The amount left after the initial advance and service fee have been deducted.

The calculation does not include the discount charge or any additional lender fees, so it should not be treated as the full cost of invoice finance.

How Invoice Finance Works

Invoice finance allows your business to access money tied up in unpaid customer invoices.

A lender releases an agreed percentage of an eligible invoice upfront. When your customer pays, the remaining balance is released after the lender’s fees and charges have been deducted.

This can give your business access to working capital without waiting for customers to reach the end of their payment terms.

Factoring or Invoice Discounting?

There are two main types of invoice finance.

Invoice Factoring

The finance provider usually manages your sales ledger and collects payment from your customers. Your customers will normally know that a finance provider is involved.

Invoice Discounting

You continue to manage your own sales ledger and customer payments. Some invoice discounting facilities can operate confidentially.

The right option will depend on your business and how much control you want to retain over collections.

Could Invoice Finance Suit Your Business?

Invoice finance is commonly used by businesses that:

  • Sell to other businesses on credit terms.
  • Regularly wait for customers to pay.
  • Raise invoices for completed goods or services.
  • Need more working capital to cover everyday costs or support growth.

Each lender has its own eligibility criteria. It may consider your trading history, turnover, customers, invoice values and the overall quality of your sales ledger.

No. It calculates an illustrative service fee but does not include the discount charge, minimum fees or other charges that a lender may apply.

The advance rate is the percentage of an eligible invoice that a lender is prepared to release upfront.

The service fee covers the administration and operation of the invoice finance facility. How it is calculated varies between lenders.

With factoring, customers will normally know because the provider collects payment. Some invoice discounting facilities can operate confidentially.

This depends on the terms of the facility. With a recourse arrangement, your business may need to repay or replace the advance. Some facilities offer credit protection, subject to conditions and exclusions.
